Signs of December

The current theme in our classroom is "Signs of December". We set up a post office in our dramatic play area so that the children can pretend to mail letters and packages to their family and friends. They've been having a lot of fun with this center activity!

Our Fabulous Feasts!

We had our annual Harvest Feasts on Thursday, November 19th and Friday, November 20th. The children did a wonderful singing "Turkey in the Farmyard", "Hello, Mr. Turkey" and "The Doughnut Song" for their teachers, parents, grandparents and siblings! Afterwards, everyone got to enjoy delicious food, including the corn muffins that the children had made. This was truly a very special event!

Tom the Turkey

The children helped me tell the Tom the Turkey flannel board story. They used their "magic" to help Tom's feathers change from brown to red, red to green, and green to yellow! At the end of the story, they learned that great things can happen when they work together. Each child put a colored feather on Tom. In turn, he was many different colors and more beautiful than ever!

This lesson focused on the following preschool reading standards:

Key Ideas and Details

MA.1: With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about a story or poem read aloud.

MA.2: With prompting and support, retell a sequence of events from a story read aloud.

Haunted Houses

The children did a great job making haunted houses!  They were instructed to take one window, one door and one Halloween shape before sitting at the tables.  There were ghosts made from lima beans and trays of cotton balls on the tables.  The children practiced pulling and stretching cotton balls to make spooky clouds.

Look what we made!

Counting and Cardinality: MA.4. Count many kinds of concrete objects and actions up to ten, using one-to-one correspondence, and accurately count as many as seven things in a scattered configuration.
