February 2015 Newsletter
Steward Integrated Preschool
Miss Judy, Miss Diane and Miss Robyn
I enjoyed meeting with each of you
to discuss your child’s progress in school.
You will be receiving another written report in June. Please feel free to contact me if you ever
have a question about the happenings in preschool or something more specific to
your child.
Themes
We just finished our “Valentine’s Day” theme. The color of the month is red. The children have been extending an ABC color
pattern (red heart-purple heart-pink heart) on the February calendar. The
children listened to theme related stories including The Day It Rained
Hearts by Felicia Bond and Mouse’s First Valentine by Lauren
Thompson . They decorated white paper
bags for our Valentine’s Day party using heart-shaped doilies, paper hearts and
foam hearts. We put out heart-shaped
cookie cutters to use with red play dough.
During choice time, the children had the opportunity to complete a
heart-shaped floor puzzle, paint a heart at the easel and/or use vinegar, paint
brushes and tissue paper to color paper hearts at the science center. They also had a lot of fun pouring rice into
heart shaped bowls, shaking rice in heart shaped boxes and searching for
heart-shaped items in the sensory table.
The children were very excited to pass out their Valentines and eat
their special snack. Thanks for your
help. We sang the “Three Valentines”
song. Each child was given three hearts
with a classmate’s name written on them.
They took turns putting their hearts in the classroom mailbox, saying
the name written on the hearts and then delivering the hearts to that person
while saying, “Happy Valentine’s Day (child’s name)!” They used heart stencils, red paint and
sponge daubers to make cards. We hope
you like your card!
Three Valentines
(Sung to: 'Mary Had
a Little Lamb')
Three valentines I
have for you,
Have for you, have for you.
Three valentines I have for you,
Pink, red, and blue.
I'll put them in the mail for you,
Mail for you, mail for you.
I'll put them in the mail for you,
Pink, red, and blue.
When we return from vacation, we’ll be exploring some of the works of
Theodor Seuss Geisel (pen names, Dr. Seuss and Theo. LeSieg), including Green Eggs and Ham and In A People House. We’ll put split peas in the sensory table and
make green oobleck (cornstarch and water).
The children will use green paper hearts to make shamrocks. They’ll also explore color mixing by using eyedroppers
and blue and yellow colored water to color shamrocks cut from coffee
filters. “Pajama Day” will be on
Thursday, March 5th and Friday, March 6th. Your child may come to school in his/her pajamas,
but you may want to pack other clothing in case he/she wants to change. We’ll have a special green snack on Monday,
March 16th and Tuesday, March 17th.
Miss Diane, Miss
Robyn and I hope you have a wonderful February vacation! We’re looking forward to the warmer days
ahead!
