Brown Day

Once a month, we have a special color or shape day.  Each child brings and/or wears something that's the color/shape we're learning about and shows it/them to the class.  Thursday, November 14th and Friday, November 15th were brown days!  It's clear that the children enjoy these special days!  Next month we'll focus on the color red.

Halloween Happenings

The learning activities pertaining to Halloween proved to be a big hit with my students!

During center time, they had the opportunity to paint a ghost, bat and/or jack o' lantern at the easel.  The children who painted a jack o' lantern had a lot of fun color mixing!

During Fun Tables, they combined dry ingredients (flour and salt) and wet ingredients (water and food coloring) to make orange baker's clay.  They pressed or rolled out their dough and used cookie cutters to make bats, ghosts, cats, jack o' lanterns and other Halloween items.  They were very excited to bring their clay home!

They used cotton balls, lima beans and foam Halloween shapes to make haunted houses!

Happy Halloween!

October "Fun Tables"

Our preschoolers participate in daily "Fun Tables" activities in which they practice fine motor skills, explore science and math, make crafts, as well as develop many other skills.

In connection with our "Signs of Fall" theme, they crumpled and glued red, orange and yellow tissue paper to make beautiful, fall trees!

They learned several vocabulary words pertaining to the anatomy of a pumpkin, such as the lid, pulp and ribs.  They explored the inside and outside of a real pumpkin and then used construction paper, crepe paper and real pumpkin seeds to make something that looks like the inside of a pumpkin.

October 17th and 18th were "Circle Days"!  The children practiced tracing the letter C and used circle stickers to fill up their gumball machines.  They look adorable on the bulletin board!

Fun with Science

Last week we began our Plants unit that's part of the Macmillan McGraw-Hill Pre-K science program.  In this unit, the children will be exploring different types of plants, discussing what plants need to grow, and identifying the different parts of plants.  Today the children sowed bean seeds in peat pots.  We're excited to see how they will grow and change in the next few weeks!

Egg Hunt Memories

Earlier this month, the children participated in several activities pertaining to egg hunts.  They used markers and foam shapes to make springtime baskets.

They also used paper eggs, bleeding tissue paper and vinegar to make tie dye eggs.  We hope
you had a chance to see them on our hallway bulletin board during the Open House!

The children had great fun preparing for our egg hunts that took place on April 11th and 12th! They used cookie cutters and glitter to decorate bags for their eggs.  They also made rabbit ear headbands.

They looked adorable!

Before going on our hunts, we had a special snack!

We were fortunate to have both of our hunts on the preschool playground!

Thanks for your help with this special event!

Rain, Rain Everywhere

In connection with our Sky and Weather science unit, we did several Fun Table activities pertaining to rain.  We talked about the water cycle and made rain clouds out of shaving cream, water, and blue food coloring.

The children also made rain clouds using cotton balls and black glitter!

They look great on the bulletin board!

This coming week, we'll finish up making our rain sticks and use them while singing songs about the rain, such as "It is Raining".

It Is Raining

( Tune: "Frere Jacques")
It is raining,
It is raining,
On my head.
On my head.
Pitter patter raindrops
Pitter patter raindrops
I’m all wet!
I’m all wet!

Pancakes and Pajamas!

Pajama Day 2019 was a big hit!  Our special hot chocolate and pancake snack was delicious!

The children got comfortable and listened to stories about pancakes and nighttime.  On Thursday, I read If You Give a Pig a Pancake by Laura Numeroff and on Friday, Miss Peterson read The Napping House by Audrey Wood.

For Fun Tables, the Thursday group used chalk and a paper moon and stars to make nighttime pictures. They looked terrific!

On Friday, the children drew something from a dream they had or would like to have and dictated information about the dream.  Their pictures look amazing on the bulletin board!

We sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and played games.  The Thursday class played Flashlight I Spy and the Friday class acted out the Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed story.

As you can see, great fun was had by all!

February Fun!

We certainly had a fun-filled February in preschool!  We started the month by making red playdough since the color of the month was red.

On February 7th and 8th, we celebrated Red Days!  Each child wore and/or brought in something red to show to the class.

The children decorated paper bags for the Valentines that they exchanged on February 13th and 14th.  They were excited to get something special from their friends!

They also had a special red snack and played Pin the Heart on the Robot!

We started our Dr. Seuss theme on the 25th.  We made green eggs and ham out of paper plates, crayons and construction paper.  We also started making our school of fish to go on bulletin board and Mrs. Rhuda is going to read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish to the class tomorrow.  March is sure to bring many memorable events!
