Haunted Houses

The children did a great job making haunted houses!  They were instructed to take one window, one door and one Halloween shape before sitting at the tables.  There were ghosts made from lima beans and trays of cotton balls on the tables.  The children practiced pulling and stretching cotton balls to make spooky clouds.

Look what we made!

The Hooky Spooky
(sung to the tune of the Hokey Pokey)
You put your head in, you put your head out,
You put your head in and you shake it all about.
You do the hooky spooky and you give a little shout.
That's what it's all about- BOO!

The Five Little Pumpkins song was also a big hit!

The boys and girls used marbles to paint pumpkins!

Apple Exploration

Last Thursday we finished our study of apples. During center time, the children had the opportunity to listen to a book on cd entitled, Under the Apple Tree by Steve Metzger.  As a culminating activity, the children used their five senses to finish the following sentence starters:

Apples look...
Apples sound...
Apples taste...
Apples smell...
Apples feel...

This was a great vocabulary building activity!  The children had a lot of fun, especially when it came time to taste an apple!

Abundant Apples!

Last week the children participated in many activities pertaining to apples.  I read Ten Apples Up On Top by Dr. Seuss and the children practiced using one-to-one correspondence to count paper apples. After choosing an animal character from the story to color, each child glued his/her apples on top of the animal.  Their work looks terrific on the bulletin board!

The children also practiced cutting and tearing paper to decorate an apple cutout.

The children truly enjoyed doing the "Way Up High in the Apple Tree" finger play!

Way up high in the apple tree,
Five little apples hung over me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could,
Down came an apple and
Mmmm, it was good!
Repeat the rhyme until all the apples are off of the tree!
